Where do we provide tree service?
Shawsheen Tree Co. serves all of Andover, Massachusetts (ZIP 01810), from the dense streets around Main Street to the wooded lots near the town line. Our office is at 18 Summer St, Andover, so every neighborhood in town is close by. Tree pruning is the most common job we do in each of them, along with removals, cabling, stump grinding and health care.
Each neighborhood below has its own page with local details, the services most needed there, and answers to common questions. You’ll find links to all six at the bottom of this page.
Which Andover neighborhoods do we cover?
Andover Center
The center of town around Elm Square and Main Street has older homes on tight lots, with mature maples and oaks reaching over roofs, sidewalks and neighbors’ yards. Work here is precise: wood is lowered by rope and equipment access is often limited.
West Andover
Out along Lowell Street toward Haggetts Pond and the I-93 corridor, lots are larger and more wooded. Exposed woodland-edge trees, dead ash and tall pines drive most of the work.
South Andover and Holt Hill
The most rural-feeling part of town, with big lots, long driveways and oak and pine woodland near the Ward Reservation. Oak wilt prevention and driveway clearance matter most.
Shawsheen Village
A planned village from the early 1900s around Shawsheen Square, with big shade trees standing close to closely spaced homes. Crown reduction and cabling keep century-old trees safe.
Ballardvale
The historic mill village along the Shawsheen River, with riverside lots, wetter soils and old trees beside historic homes. Root health and storm preparation lead the list.
Phillips Academy and Bancroft
The established streets around Andover Hill and the Bancroft Road neighborhood hold heritage trees that owners want to keep for decades.
How do tree needs differ across town?
| Neighborhood | Typical trees | Most common work |
|---|---|---|

| West Andover | White pine, red maple, oak, ash | Hazard removal, crown raising, stump grinding |
| South Andover & Holt Hill | Red and white oak, white pine, hemlock | Oak care, driveway clearance, removals |
| Shawsheen Village | Sugar and Norway maple, linden, red oak | Crown reduction, cabling, pruning |
| Ballardvale | Red and silver maple, willow, oak | Health care, cabling, storm prep |
| Phillips Academy & Bancroft | Oak, maple, beech, elm | Plant health care, disease monitoring |
Why does the neighborhood matter for tree work?
The same species can need very different care depending on where it grows. A red maple on a tight lot near Main Street competes with sidewalks, salt and a nearby roof, so clearance and root health come first. The same tree on a riverside lot in Ballardvale deals with wet soil and shallow roots, while one at a woodland edge in West Andover faces wind it never grew up with. Knowing the neighborhood helps us plan the right equipment, protect what’s around the tree, and schedule work for the right season.
Lot size and access also shape every job. Tight village lots mean rigging and hand-carrying wood, while large South Andover properties may need work grouped by priority across many trees.
Do you work outside these neighborhoods?
Yes. These six areas cover most of Andover, but we work on any property in town. If your street isn’t mentioned, just call and tell us where the tree is. Homes, condo associations and commercial properties are all covered. For help deciding what your trees need, see our full list of tree services or try the tree symptom checker.
Call and tell us your street. We’ll take it from there.
